Match Report | Millwall v Oldham

The New League Campaign kicked off at the Den yesterday , Millwall fans over 9,000 turned up to see if there was any hangover from the Play Off Final defeat back in May based on what we saw yesterday there was no hangover. Most Millwall fans were hoping to see if our 3 signings would figure in the game 2 out of the 3 did and they was happy with their contribution to the game.

The game was not even 15 minutes old before the Lions took the lead, Lions midfielder Ben Thompson picked up the ball just outside the 18 yard box on the right hand side. He just got in to the area and has he knocked the ball pass Oldham Defender Cameron Burgess. Burgess was slow to react put his foot in down went Thompson and the ref had no choice but to point to the spot. Up stepped top scorer from last season Lee Gregory calmly put the ball into the net to open his account for this season.

This was a game that the Lions were well in control for the first 30 mins Archer never was never seriously called into action. Then on about the 35th minute Morison saw the Oldham keeper about 6 to 7 yards off his line and from about 30 yards took a shot the keeper was well beat by the pace of the ball fortunately for him it went about a foot over the bar.

Then in time added on at the end of the 1st Half 45 +3 Oldham conceded a corner new signing David Worrall took the corner the ball dropped in the area about 8 yards off the line Aiden O’Brien smashed the ball goal bound  the keeper Connor Ripley had no chance & Millwall were 2 up . Within a minute of the 2nd half starting David Worrall put a low cross in the area and Millwall defender Bryon Webster slid in and it was 3 nil effectively the game was over . Late in the 2nd half Oldham had a free kick about 10 yards outside the box  the shot flew past the near post about 2 yards wide and with that ref blew up for time the 1st 3 points secured and everyone connected with the Lions went home happy.

Lee Gregory went off injured it is not known if he will be available for Tuesday night, Davis Worrall had a good game he has an eye for a pass and it is not always the obvious one the guy clearly has a football brain. Gregg Wylde makes his home debut as a sub he looked a good player calm on the ball.

Oldham Boss Steve Robinson who took over the reins on his return from the Euros where he had been the Assistant to the Northern Ireland Boss found he had only 5 players in contract. So he set about recruiting he brought in 15 players. Their pre-season had not gone well they had suffered 4 defeats this is a team in transition and by what we yesterday it will be a hard job.
