Match Report | Millwall v Swindon Town

Monday 26th December 2016 | at The Den | Kickoff 15.00hrs | Attendance 8,515 (away supporters 287)

Millwall came into this game following a 3-1 win against Charlton Athletic on 21st December and was hoping to pick another 3 points. The Lions record against Swindon before the game is – Played 96 games, Won 38, Drawn 27, Lost 31.

Millwall went into this game on the exact points total has it had at the same date last season. There have been two consistent failings in this campaign the first is the failure to keep clean sheets and the second inconsistency.
Lee Gregory had one of his best games of the season this afternoon scoring after 10 minutes. The ball was played into the box and Greggers somehow managed to get off a low drive on the edge of the 6-yard box & it beat keeper Vigouroux.

Millwall had the better chances especially in the first half and on the half hour Lions Central Defender Hutchinson nearly put the Lions 2 up with a header which beat the keeper but was cleared off the line. Swindon in the first half a good passing game but the problem was that when they got the ball on the edge of the Millwall 18 yard box they seem to run out of ideas.

In the second half, Swindon only had one clear-cut chance when Norris put his shot wide when he hit the ball wide with the outside of his boot putting the ball wide with archer beaten.

On the 65th minute, Millwall increased their lead to 2 when Morison put a cross into the centre where it was met by Greggers which he volleyed into the net. Just before the end Shawn Hutchinson nearly scored again but the Swindon keeper who had a good game pulled a great diving save.

For me, it was important that we got the win but it was equally important we kept a clean sheet as it turned out it was our first clean sheet in seven (7) games.

Final scores Millwall 2, Swindon 0!
